Accessibility statement

We aim for the calculators and guides to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at Level AA.

Courts, legal aid organizations and libraries that link to or embed public tools increasingly require WCAG conformance. We design for it from the start.

How the site is built

  • Works without JavaScript. Each calculator is an ordinary form; the result is a normal page that any browser and assistive technology can read. Scripts only add conveniences such as the date read-back and the copy-link button.
  • Typed dates. Dates are entered in a single text field that accepts common formats, and the date you typed is read back with its weekday so you can confirm it.
  • Errors you can find. Problems are listed at the top of the form with links to the fields, and each field states what is wrong in words.
  • Not color alone. In the small calendar, counted, skipped, starting and deadline days are distinguished by pattern and labels as well as color, and the same information is given in the numbered list of steps.
  • Keyboard and focus. Every control can be reached and used with a keyboard, focus is always visible, and controls are at least 24 by 24 pixels.
  • Readable at any size. Text reflows at 400% zoom without horizontal scrolling on the main content, and colors meet AA contrast in both light and dark modes.
  • Reduced motion. The site has no animation.

Known limitations

  • The small month calendar in a result is hidden from screen readers because the numbered list of steps directly above it gives the same information in a more usable order.
  • Wide tables, such as holiday lists, scroll horizontally on very small screens.
