Florida court holidays 2027

The ten statewide legal holidays Florida courts observe in 2027, the two closed Fridays that end the year, and the circuit-by-circuit additions.

  • December 24 and December 31 both closed
  • Friday after Thanksgiving is a legal holiday
  • Circuits add Good Friday and the High Holy Days

Florida’s court holidays have two layers. Rule 2.514(a)(6) of the Rules of General Practice and Judicial Administration makes the holidays of Fla. Stat. § 110.117 legal holidays statewide, and adds any day the clerk’s office is closed by order of the chief judge of the circuit. The statewide list observes a Saturday holiday on the Friday before and a Sunday holiday on the Monday after, which gives 2027 an unusual ending.

Ten weekdays are closed everywhere: the federal-style holidays of § 110.117 (without Washington’s Birthday, Juneteenth or Columbus Day), the Friday after Thanksgiving, and two observed Fridays at the end of the year. Independence Day, a Sunday, is observed Monday, July 5. Christmas and New Year’s Day 2028 are both Saturdays, so Friday, December 24 and are legal holidays, and the last week of the year has only four court days.

Days the start rule skips

Florida counts differently from every other system here: for a period of seven days or more, the first day counted is the first day after the trigger that is not a weekend or holiday (rule 2.514(a)(1)(A)). A paper served on starts its count on Monday, November 29, after Thanksgiving, the Friday holiday and the weekend. Periods under seven days skip every weekend and holiday inside them.

Circuit holidays by order

Chief judges close their courts on days the statute does not list. The orders loaded for 2027 add Good Friday (March 26) in most circuits, Rosh Hashanah (October 1) and Yom Kippur (October 11) in several, and in the Eighteenth Circuit the day before Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas. Because rule 2.514(a)(6)(B) treats each of those closures as a legal holiday, a deadline in that circuit moves over them. The Florida calculator carries the orders of the Second, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, Ninth, Eleventh, Thirteenth, Eighteenth and Nineteenth Circuits; the Twentieth’s list is shown as unconfirmed.

Florida days in federal court

Whether the longer Florida statutory list of § 683.01 counts in a federal court in Florida under Rule 6(a)(6)(C) is unresearched, and the federal calculator does not yet offer Florida as a forum state. Leaving the days out can only make a federal deadline earlier, never later.

Questions about florida holidays in 2027

Is Juneteenth a court holiday in Florida?

No. Juneteenth is not among the § 110.117 holidays that rule 2.514(a)(6)(A) adopts for the courts, so June 18 and 19, 2027 are ordinary days unless a circuit’s chief judge adds the day by order. Check the circuit’s holiday schedule.

Why are both December 24 and December 31, 2027 court holidays in Florida?

Christmas and New Year’s Day 2028 both fall on a Saturday, and § 110.117 observes a Saturday holiday on the preceding Friday. A deadline ending on either Friday runs to the next court day, and the counting start rule of rule 2.514(a)(1) also skips them for a period beginning that week.

Do circuit holidays count for a deadline in Florida?

Yes. Rule 2.514(a)(6)(B) makes any day the clerk’s office is closed by order of the chief judge a legal holiday for computing time, so a circuit’s Good Friday or Yom Kippur closure moves a deadline in that circuit. The Florida calculator applies the orders of ten circuits when you choose one.
